Terminology
GC-- Gas Chromotography: HPLC--High Pressure Liquid Chromatography: GC/MS--Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectroscopy: FTIR--Fourier Transform InfraRed: FID--Flame ionization Detector: ECD--Electron Capture Detector: PID--Photoionization Detector:
MCL--Maximum Contamination Limit: An enforceable standard set by the EPA to regulate contamintion. It is assumed that levels above the MCL are hazordous and cannot be throughly removed or flushed from a particular water system. A high concentration of contaminates above the MCL value can possibly lead to health problems. MDL--Method Detection Limit: It is the lowest limit by which a compound can actually be detected and measured within our lab. Amounts less than the MDL value cannot be verifiably quantified. Therefore, values less than the MDL are reported as such. For example, a pesticide has a value of 0.07 ppm in drinking water, but the MDL value for the lab is 0.10 ppm. The reported value would be <0.10 ppm.
VOC--Volatile Organic Compounds: TPH-Mod--Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons Modified: This includes tests for TPH-D (Diesel Range Organics), Tph-G (Gas Range Organics) and TPH-O (Oil). The TPH's are extracted by either EPA methods 3510 (liquid) or 3550 (solid) and are analyzed by EPA method 8015-Mod. |
